Benson, NC is located on the eastern side of Johnston County at the crossroads of I-95 and I-40. The small town has a population of 3,600 and lies halfway between New York City and Miami. Events and Festivals

Every year on the last weekend of September crowds of nearly 50,000 people come to Benson to celebrate Johnston County's largest annual festival, Benson Mule Days. Mule Days began in 1950 as a celebration of harvest to honor the mule for its hard work. The three-day festival consists of rodeos, beauty pageants, a parade, dances, bluegrass music, and more. Benson also holds one of the oldest festivals in the state of North Carolina every June, The State Annual Singing Convention, a gospel singing and entertainment competition. Both festivals are held downtown at The Benson Singing Grove, a two acre park and venue which also holds summer movie nights and concerts. Downtown Benson is home to 100 local stores, eateries, and historic landmarks.

Benson takes pride in its locally famous barbecue spot. The Redneck BBQ Lab is known for their freshly cooked brisket, pulled pork, ribs, turkey, and chicken, along with traditional country sides. The owners are members of the Redneck Scientific Competition BBQ team and are dedicated to serving only the best. They have created an award winning sauce that can be purchased in the store. On the weekends, locals enjoy playing trivia and music bingo at the Fainting Goat Brewery. If you prefer to sit back and sip fine muscadine wines, visit Gregory Vineyards. The Broadslab Distillery offers a tasting room, a bar and gift shop. Visitors can go on a 1 hour tour of the distillery and learn about their all natural, handcrafted premium products, and receive free shot glasses and tasting of products. The Barn at Broadslab serves as an elegant yet southern-rustic venue for special events including weddings. Bring family and friends to Smith's Nursery, Farm Market and Garden Center where they specialize in growing nursery plants, strawberries, and greenhouse vegetables. Inside at the Ice Cream & Coffee Shack you'll find cute pots, gift items, fresh bread and dairy, along with seasonal vegetables, meats and tasty treats.
